Indian Premier League 2020
Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 was scheduled between 29 March 2020 and 24 May 2020 postponed due to Covid-19.The new dates for IPL 2020 has been confirmed by the IPL chairman Brijesh Patel.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 will be held from Sept 19 – Nov 10 2020.
For the first time IPL will be hosted in the UAE. The detailed schedule is yet to be announced.
The IPL was set to be hosted in India initially. However, due to the Corona Virus pandemic it was suspended indefinitely.
It was recently confirmed by the BCCI that the tournament will now be hosted in UAE.
The 13th edition of the Indian Premier League is hosted by UAE.
According to the Board of Cricket Control of India (BCCI) and Emirates Cricket Board (ECB), UAE currently is the safest destination to host the IPL 2020. So UAE is gearing up to host 13th edition of the Indian Premier League 2020.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) has decided to hold the 13th edition of the league from September 19 to November 10. This will include 8 teams playing in this IPL 2020.
The IPL 2020 final will be played on November 10.
The opening match will be played between the Mumbai Indians (MI) Vs Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on 19 September 2020
The IPL 2020 final will be played on November 10. It will be a 53-day tournament which will feature 10-afternoon matches at 15:30 IST while the evening matches will start at 19:30 IST.
IPL will be telecast on Star Sports Network.
The IPL 2020 will be played across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah. This IPL will be telecast on the Star Sports Network.
The live streaming of the IPL 2020 match will be available on Disney+ Hotstar.
Guidelines are given by BCCI for IPL 2020
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has handed over the detailed Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) for the Indian Premier League 2020 (IPL 2020) to the franchises.
As per the SOP’s franchises have been instructed primarily on 8 accounts. These accounts are related to testing, accommodation, social distancing at the ground and in hotels, the appointment of team doctors, and various other aspects.
Virtual meeting for the games should be conducted.
The BCCI has instructed the IPL franchises clearly to minimize the contact not only with the other franchises but also with-in the squads.
BCCI has instructed that even the team meeting before and after the games should be conducted virtually by the IPL franchises.
Strict guidelines which should be followed throughout the game.
Regular Testing for players, support staff and others
All players, domestic and overseas, will have to undergo 5 tests before entering the bio-secure bubble. Players and support staff will have to undergo tests every 5th day after entering the bio-secure bubble.
After two successful COVID-19 PCR tests, 24 hours apart, players will be allowed to fly to the UAE. Players will be put up in hotels and will be in quarantine during which they will give 3 more Covid-19 tests over 6 days.
If anyone testing positive for COVID-19 should be asked to quarantine and seek medical advice. After completion of their 14-day quarantine period, the individual is required to take two COVID-19 PCR tests, 24 hours apart, and if both test reports are negative, he/she may be allowed to fly out to the UAE.
Players and support staff who arrive in the UAE will be giving 3 Tests — Day 1, Day 3, and Day 6. After all three successful tests, players will be allowed to enter the biosecure bubble. Players and support staff will not be allowed to leave the bubble once entered throughout the duration of IPL 2020.
Separate hotels for franchises
All 8 franchises has been instructed to stay in a separate hotel. At no point, two franchises can stay in a same hotel. Players and support staff for each franchise will have to maintain distance from the other franchise. They should not mingle around with each other.
Social distancing in dressing rooms
Each IPL team will have to maintain social distancing in the dressing rooms. At no point, more than 15 players will be allowed to sit in the dressing room. Support staff other than required will not enter the dressing rooms.
Electronic team sheets
Each IPL team will be given an electronic team sheet which will be handed over before each IPL game.
Recommendations for virtual team meetings
BCCI has directed the franchises to do team meetings virtually. This means while staying in a same hotel, physical contact will be minimized between the players. All team meetings will be conducted virtually.
Appoint Team Doctor
Each franchise has been instructed to appoint a team doctor who will be responsible for ensuring bio-secure guidelines during the tournament.
Collect Medical and Travel history of each squad member
The franchise medical team should obtain a complete medical and travel history starting 1st March 2020 of all players and team support staff at least 2 weeks before the scheduled departure to UAE. Be it the traveling support staff or players, travel history of each member would be collected.
No ban on families but they have to follow protocols
Franchises have been directed that players can travel with their families but even they have to follow the norms followed by the players. The franchises should ensure the close ones of the players follow all the protocols that are in place for the players and the support staff.
